Taking a Stroll Through the Tysons Tiles Project
Throughout the months of May and June, Jennifer and videographer Jenna von Elling were documenting the installation of Imagine Art Here: Tysons Tiles, a public art engagement project of the Arts Council of Fairfax County. It showcases the work of artist Julia Vogl.
Starting June 25, visitors and riders will be able see art installations set up at the Greensboro Green and Tysons West Metro stations, and can see the responses illuminated in LED lights on the exterior of the Silver Line Center building in Tysons, Va.
Throughout May, Vogl spoke with 1,000 people, using her Tysons Tiles art trolley and a custom app. She asked three questions about people’s roles in the community, their opinions and a fun fact about each.
The art was created from the visually translated responses, which were used to fabricate the ground mural art installations that will be on display through Aug. 3.
Jennifer took photographs throughout the event. She documented Vogl working at such sites as the Tysons Farmers Market, the McLean Metro Station and the Silver Line Center, along with the actual installation of the art and its public opening on June 25.
Jenna has been recording the creation and installation process as well, and a complete video of the event will be created to showcase the project from start to finish.
The Tysons Tiles project hopes to boost community awareness of the potential for pubic art in the Tysons area.
